Discussing
the /θ/ and the /ð/ to second language learners is not that easy
considering that these sounds are inexistent in their own language.
Producing these two sounds and pronouncing words with them have
always been a challenge. Having observed them, I let them pronounce a
number of words indicating the sounds mentioned. After the speaking
drill, we read a tongue twister featuring the sounds discussed. Then,
I assigned them to a dyadic grouping and explained the instructions
on composing tongue twisters using the words that they have learned.
I gave them fifteen minutes to work on the task and some of them came
up with the following:
Thomas

Not
every group was able to present a very good output. Nevertheless, I’m
proud of my learners as they demonstrated their understanding of the
lesson.
