Exodus 6: 14-27 (summarized)
The genealogy of Aaron and Moses are presented in this part of the book. The
narration started from Reuben’s clans comprising Hanok and Pallu, Hezron and
Karmi. Then, Simeon’s clans were next composing Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin,
Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman. Lastly, Levi’s clans were
mentioned. These were the names of the
sons of Levi according to their records: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. Levi lived
137 years. The sons of Gershon, by clans, were Libni and Shimei. The sons of
Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. Kohath lived 133 years. The sons
of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of Levi according to their
records. Amram married his father’s sister Jochebed, who bore him Aaron and
Moses. Amram lived 137 years. The sons of Izhar were Korah, Nepheg and Zikri. The
sons of Uzziel were Mishael, Elzaphan and Sithri. Aaron married Elisheba,
daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon, and she bore him Nadab and Abihu,
Eleazar and Ithamar. The sons of Korah were Assir, Elkanah and Abiasaph. These
were the Korahite clans. Eleazar son of Aaron married one of the daughters of
Putiel, and she bore him Phinehas. These were the heads of the Levite families,
clan by clan. It was this Aaron and Moses to whom the LORD said, “Bring the
Israelites out of Egypt by their divisions.” They were the ones who spoke to
Pharaoh king of Egypt about bringing the Israelites out of Egypt—this same
Moses and Aaron.
Message:
Here, it’s quite clear that Aaron and Moses are real Israelites and that through
them God’s covenant to their ancestors was about to be realized. This part is
one of those numerous proofs that God truly keeps His promise and that whoever
is commissioned to be an instrument for the fulfilment of such a promise will
be protected, guided and bestowed by Him of the skills needed. God let Aaron be
Moses’ spokesperson as the latter assumed himself to have lacked the eloquence
necessary for the task.
Application:
I’ll make God my priority and unlike Moses I’d see to it that I
positively respond to His call.
Prayer:
Dear God, I thank you that in times like this I still find time to
communicate with You and that I still think positively Lord. Reading Your word
eases the pain and lessens the negativity in me Father. If I have been manifesting
otherwise because of what happened yesterday, forgive me God. Yes Father, I
understand that my calling is not as great as Moses’; however, I know that You
have readily set my purpose Lord and whatever it may be, I pray that I’d be
able to fulfil it to the best of my ability. I pray for your blessing and
guidance Father. Let me not participate in slanderous acts and make me a
blessing to all in the workplace today. This I pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
