Exodus 13: 1-10
The LORD said to Moses, “Consecrate to me every firstborn male. The first
offspring of every womb among the Israelites belongs to me, whether human or
animal.” Then Moses said to the people, “Commemorate this day, the day you came
out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery, because the LORD brought you out of
it with a mighty hand. Eat nothing containing yeast. Today, in the month of
Aviv, you are leaving. When the LORD brings you into the land of the
Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites and Jebusites—the land he swore to your
ancestors to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey—you are to observe
this ceremony in this month: For seven days eat bread made without yeast and on
the seventh day hold a festival to the LORD. Eat unleavened bread during those seven days;
nothing with yeast in it is to be seen among you, nor shall any yeast be seen anywhere
within your borders. On that day tell your son, ‘I do this because of what the
LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.’ This observance will be for you like
a sign on your hand and a reminder on your forehead that this law of the LORD
is to be on your lips. For the LORD brought you out of Egypt with his mighty
hand. You must keep this ordinance at
the appointed time year after year.
Message:
Here, I learned very significant points which before were just part of
religion to me. First is the declaration of the seventh day Sabbath, the day that God’s
people must hold a festival. Second
point is that the commemoration of Passover every year. Third is the emphasis
on teaching the observance and its significance to the children, not only for
them to be aware of the practice but above all for them to realize that the God
of their parents is a mighty God and it is He who delivered them from bondage. And
the last but I considered the most significant is the dedication of each
firstborn to God. As a Christian who has just started to really read the
Scripture and set focus on its message, I got enlightened. Now I understand that:
1. dedicating
our children to God
2. observing
the Sabbath
3. teaching
our children religious practices and their significance and
4. sharing God’s
word
are not just policies or rules set by any religious organizations but
ordinances set by God Himself and that each of these must be observed for God’s
glory.
Application:
I will make it a point of conforming to each ordinance mentioned for
doing so will please and glorify God above all.
Prayer:
Father God, thank you for letting the Holy Spirit work in me, that I was
prompted to cease working on the script and browse the pages of my off line
bible Lord. Had I not done it, I would have not learned Your message for me
today Lord. Father, I ask forgiveness for the days that I missed reading the
Scripture, for the days that I got absorbed by duties relating to work. Lord I
know, above all You are supposed to be my priority, reading Your word is
supposed to be the first in my list of priorities every day. Thus, I ask for
your guidance God. Teach me to manage my schedule so well that I will have much
time communicating with You and doing what You want me to. This is my prayer,
in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
