Philippians 2:1-11

Verse: Philippians 2:1-11 (NIV)
2 Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in very nature[a] God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature[b] of a servant, being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
    he humbled himself
    by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!

9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Title: Be genuinely meek

Message: Meekness is a reflection of Jesus. He himself is an ideal example of such an act. Despite his stature, he never acted superior over others. He did otherwise and died on the cross for our salvation. Thus, as his followers, we must reflect meekness or humility as doing so will make us achieve oneness in terms of spirit and mind.

Promise to Claim: God exalted Jesus for his humility. It's this act that let Christ completely submit to the Father's authority and it's the same that will let us conform to God's requirements, an act that will make us unite and complete the joy of God our Father.

Command to Obey: "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others" (verses 3-4).

Warning to Heed: Pride opposes humility and sometimes we Christians become proud of our humility. Thus God  said, "Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else" (Galatians 6:4).

Application: I'm an assertive person and I tend to seek excellence in others without considering what I'm incapable of doing. Be meek, be humble, this I need to mind all the time. I must think that humility will enable me to understand my fellows and to work with them in the manner God wants me to. Let me see my flaws God that I may learn to practice humility. This I pray, in Jesus' name, amen.
