TUMCSIans in times of difficulties

Most of the students from TUMCSI are basically from families of good economic standing. Some are children of textile businessowners. Others are of political leaders. A few are children of school employees and there are those who are into show business or modeling field. These factors enabled them to have qualities and values distinct from other students. Thus, when mixed with students from public schools they can be easily recognized. This I realized when I started bringing students under my mentorship to competitions. One of those involves Campus Journalism.

I had a number of brats with me, the type whom I thought would never submit to my control. I was wrong for after a number of difficult circumstances in the competitions that we joined in, they made me see and realize that they have been equipped with the ability to accept challenges and adapt to situations.

Our billeting are usually public schools in nearby provinces and one of those was this:

Sometimes we share room with representatives from other schools. So students were left without a choice but to adjust. For example, they learned this:

Sleeping in a makeshift bed

Lay mats or sleeping bags on the floor

Toilets  in public schools are typically this small; thus,
they settle on changing clothes right in front of their schoolmates or let a teammate cover anyone who wishes to change clothes with a blanket.

Ricardo changed clothes before his teammates.

Heidie covered a teammate who was changing clothes.
We even experienced water scarcity in the billeting, so students did fetch water for their washing and bathing purposes.

Hans, Heidie and Ivane tried to carry a big pail of water to the toilet.
Besides water, waiting for one's turn is another problem especially in the morning and on those instances that a team of seven members had to get to the contest venue at the same time.

Vynz seemed to have fallen asleep as he waited for Kim to get out of the toilet.
Mealtimes required patience and an enduring spirit as everyone had to line up.

A shot was taken as they were queuing up for lunch.
As they got their food, they ate in this manner:

Then after eating nobody was in charge of washing the dishes so students did it by themselves and this shows how they do the job:

As for journalistic duties, they really worked together, exchanged ideas and fulfilled each of their tasks dutifully.

Despite the pressure, they managed to play and experienced the fun of being together.

As they were in the actual contest venue, I observed them doing this:

They have learned to mingle with students from other schools both teammates and opponents alike:

Sportsmanship and camaraderie were manifested whatever the outcome of the contest was.

Demie was the only one who won during DSPC 2013-14.

TUMCSI Broadcasting Team in English was the Champion  during DSPC 2014-15.

TUMCSI representatives in different categories

Althea won in RSPC.
Ricardo and Janna were Division of Rizal's representatives who comprised the Broadcasting Team, 3rd place in RSPC

With all that I have observed about and undergone with TUMCSIans, I can say that they are not just a bunch of academically smart students but a group of young men and women who have been equipped with skills and values that they practiced and will be practicing in dealing with difficulties. TUMCSIans are warriors!
