1 Samuel 7: 1-4
1 So the men of Kiriath Jearim came and took up the ark of the Lord. They
brought it to Abinadab’s house on the hill and consecrated Eleazar his son to
guard the ark of the Lord. 2 The ark remained at Kiriath Jearim a long
time—twenty years in all.
Then all the people of Israel turned back to the Lord. 3 So Samuel said
to all the Israelites, “If you are returning to the Lord with all your hearts,
then rid yourselves of the foreign gods and the Ashtoreths and commit
yourselves to the Lord and serve him only, and he will deliver you out of the
hand of the Philistines.” 4 So the Israelites put away their Baals and
Ashtoreths, and served the Lord only.
Title: Turning
away from…
Message: Liberating
ourselves from our ungodly ways and putting an end to idolatry are necessary as
we turn to serve the living God. He’s the only ONE we need. He’s the ONE who CAN
DO all that images not capable of doing. Having realized the consequences of
their unfaithfulness to God, the Israelites eventually turned to Him. They put
away everything that hindered them from worshiping and serving the REAL God.
Promise to Claim: Our God is
for REAL. He’s a living God. He’s our CREATOR and our SAVIOR.
Command to Obey: Let us
worship the living God. Let us turn from ungodly ways. Let us throw away those
images which have been said to represent God. Let us turn to God, our Father.
Warning to Heed: God abhors
any form of idolatry!
Application: I will
never let anything hinder my relationship with God. I will keep my faith to the
living God and this I will share to all others.
