If you are looking for a place that feels like home, but with the quietness you need for reflection, prayer, and spiritual renewal — Hacienda Darasa Garden Resort in Tanauan City, Batangas is one of those rare finds.
Our school, TUMCSI had our annual spiritual retreat. Because we have a large number of students we needed a big venue. From the outside, it looked like a simple ancestral house converted into a resort. But once we entered, we felt its adorable, provincial charm.
A Simple Drive, A Peaceful Destination
We traveled from Manila via SLEX, taking the Calamba Exit to Star Tollway, then Malvar Exit going to Tanauan. After Waltermart Mall, just a few meters away, you will see the sign of Hacienda Darasa. The drive took us about two hours, including a short stopover.
Located at 791 President Laurel Highway, Brgy. Darasa, Tanauan City, the resort is very accessible yet far enough from the noise of the city. The moment we arrived, we were welcomed by courteous staff and a wide open area surrounded by fruit-bearing trees, ornamental plants, and beautiful flowers — proof that this place is full of life.
Why It Is Ideal for Spiritual Activities
What makes Hacienda Darasa special is not its luxury, but its simplicity and peace. It has that very typical provincial ambiance that helps you slow down, breathe, and reflect.
Here is why I think it is ideal for spiritual activities, recollections, and retreats:
1. Quiet and Wide Garden Spaces. The resort has spacious gardens and picnic huts where small groups can gather for sharing, prayer, or meditation. There are no loud bars or noisy parties — just trees, flowers, and fresh air.
2. Two Large Swimming Pools for Relaxation. After a day of spiritual talks, you can unwind in their two swimming pools open until 11 PM. During our stay, there were only a few guests, so we were able to swim peacefully without the crowd.
3. Function Hall for Group Gatherings. They have a function room and team-building facilities that are perfect for recollections, seminars, and church group activities. You can hold your program in the morning and have quiet time in the garden in the afternoon.
4. Adorable Ancestral House Feel. The resort retains the charm of an old Filipino house. It is not intimidating. It feels warm, humble, and welcoming — just like a spiritual home should be.
Our Room Experience
We stayed in rooms with bunkbeds. The room was clean, well-painted, with air conditioning, cable TV, hot and cold shower, and complete toiletries. It was simple but comfortable enough for an overnight retreat. It gave us a good night's sleep before each next day's activity
My Recommendation
Hacienda Darasa is not a five-star luxury resort, and that is its beauty. It is affordable, adorable, peaceful, and green. If you are a retreat organizer, a youth ministry leader, or someone looking for a quiet place near Manila to recharge spiritually, this place is worth considering.
Sometimes, we don't need a grand place to meet God. We just need a quiet garden, a simple room, and a peaceful heart. Hacienda Darasa offers all three.
